SIVAS
Sivas is located in the Central Anatolia Region and can be seen as the highest
city and on the route of international trade roads .It also the most mountainous
district among the regions of Central Anatolia because this province has an
alititude of 1275 m.There are remarkable monuments which came from the earliest
ages related to the tribes that had nestled by this province.
Sivas is at the crossroads of Persia and Baghdad caravan routes where was a
commercial center in the ancient times.Sivas was the capital of the Turkish
Danishmend Emirs between 1142 and 1171.After that Seljuks gained ascendance over
Sivas province.At that time Sivas went under the style of a culture center and
scolarship had importance and many buildings were built which are today can be
seen.
There are numerous remains from that time including Izzeddin Keykavus Sifahanesi
similar to hospital because in those times it was a recorvery house which
reflects work of art and architecture.Seljuk Sultan wanted to construct this
building which has a beautiful and breahtaking decoration.
One of the best examples of wonderful Seljuk artistic works is Gok Medrese
(theological school) and Buruciye Medrese which were built in 1271.Another
artistic monument from Danishmend Emirate is Ulu Mosque which has a different
style.You should also visit the Cifte Minareli Medrese which is notable with its
twin minarets rising elegantly on both sides of its ornate portal.
Sivas played an important role during the War of Independance.The National
Congress derived the decision to fight for the liberalization of Turkey in
1919.The place of Ataturk and Congress Museum were a school then and used for
the congress.Nowadays, the museum has relevant documents of the congress and
war, ethngrapical finds and local handicrafts are on display.
One of the interesting place of Sivas is Divrigi which is 165 km away from Sivas
and it`s an ancient town.Divrigi was the capital of Turkish Mungucek Emirs and
has remains from that and Byzantine period.Ulu Mosque and a citadel from that
period are available to see that is recommended for visitors.This mosque has
some specialities which are its style and architecture.It has a Baroque style
and a real masterpiecs of stonework.We have to mention one thing about this
magnificient mosque: this extraordinary mosque has been declared by UNESCO as
one of the cultural heritages of the world.So there are lots of reason to visit
his wonderful historical place.
Sivas is rich in historical sights as you see ; however it`s not only a
historical city but also has other characteristics.Balikli Kaplica is one of
them.It`s an interseting spa of the town Kangal.Balikli Kaplica is a thermal
spring where there are tiny fish taht provides numerous cure for skin
complaints.The fish approaches the patients those who have problems such as
chronic pimples, wounds, eczema clean and heal the wounds without causing pain
to the patients.This thermal is known as the only place for the psoriasis (Sedef
Hastaligi).It`s possible to recover in 21 days.There is another spa center which
is called Soguk Cermik.If you are interested in natural sports and picnic,
Hafik, Todurge, Gokpinar Lakes are places which are worth to see.
When you say someone `Sivas` the first thing come up to mind is its famous dogs
called Kangal dogs.Kangal dogs are loyal and enduring to harsh climates as in
Sivas.These dogs are also used by police and milititary service.
When you come to Sivas, don`t forget to buy famous and local carpets with
various and original designs and colors.You can be chocked by the variety of
these local weavings.Knitted and woven articles such as bags, saddlebags, belts,
socks and scarves are among the leading handicrafts in Sivas.Moreover, silver
items, combs and knives made of boe are another examples of local handicrafts.
Sivas city was a very important city on March 29 , 2006 when the total Solar
Eclipse was seen from this province at 14:06 perfectly.
It is 28.480 km2 in area and the population of
Mus is 785.406.
Sivas is the second largest city of Turkey.The climate in Sivas is changeable.It
can be seen Blacksea climate in Kizilirmak district whereas you can feel the
continental climate with hot, dry summers, and cold winters.
Sivas city is rich in natural sorroundings such as mountains.There are a wide
range of mountains which are Kizildag, Kose Dag, Tekeli Dag, Yildiz Dagi, Tecer
Daglari, Akdag, Incebel Dagi.The names of the lakes in Sivas province are:

rivers as there are lots of them such as Kizilirmak, Kelkit, Tozanli, Calti,
Tohma rivers are natural places that you should see intimately.
Sivas is also famous for its festivals: Imrali Honey Festival in Imrali on 3rd
September, Gurun Apricot Festival in Gurun on 14th August, Asik Veysel Culture
