The city of Agri, situated
on the eastern border of
Turkey, has in history acted
as a passage, as well as a
stopping point for
migrations from Asia to
Anatolia. Its name comes
from the World famous Mount
Ararat, called Agri Dagi in
Turkish.
MOUNT AGRI
Its ancient name was
''Ararat''. It is the
highest mountain of Turkey
(5165m) on the east borders.
This volcanic mountain has
been the subject many myths
throughout history. The
first book at Forah,
testament mentions this
mountain because of the
fload and Noah's Ark. It is
written in the testament.
''And Noah's Ark landed on
mount Ararat on the 17th day
of 7th month.'' You can see
''Little Agri''
(approximately 3900 m)
Souteast of Mount Agri.
Frederick Parrot reached the
peak of Agri for the first
time in 1829. It is said
that after the 1st World War
a Russian pilot found a
picture of it. There are
many such myths about Mounth
Agri.
ISHAK PASHA PALACE
It was built on steep rocks
9 km southeast of Eastern
Beyazıt. The construction of
this splending palace begun
in 1680 and it lasted for 90
years. It was built on area
of 7600 m2. This palace was
built by Beyazit Sancak Beyi
Colak Abdi Pasha. Besides
splendid works of there are
336 rooms a divan room,
bakery, tombs stone, mosque
and embassing works in the
palace. According to a myth
the doors of the palace were
made of gold but they were
stolen by the Russians.

Geographical Position
The surface area of Turkey is divided by the Dardanelles, the sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus. In the west, Turkey has boundaries with Greece (212km) and Bulgaria (269km). In the east and south east, Turkey has boundaries with four countries: The Soviet Union (610km) , Iran (454km), Iraq (331km), and Syria (870km). Geographically, Turkey is a land-bridge between Europe and Asia.
The european section of Turkey is a fertile hilly land. The Asian part of Turkey consist of an inner high plateau (1000m) with mountain ranges along the north and south coasts. The plaeau extends from the west to the Aegean coast, with many river valleys.
The western part is the most fertile section of the country. In eastern Turkey, the northern Pontus Mountains meet with the southern Taurus Mountains and from here the 1800m high Anatolian plateau. From this plateau rise the particularly high Vulkan Mountains over 3000m, while further south is the 5165m high Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in the country.
