ALANYA
Alanya know as pirates
sanctuary in ancient times,
has developed very rapidly
in recent years and become a
touristic town. The date of
establisment is unkown. It
is a town of Antalya. Before
the Ottoman occupation in
1472, Alanya was the base of
the Seljuks.
RED TOWER (KIZIL KULE)
It is most splendid building
of Alanya and the Red Tower
seen to complete eachoter.
The Octagon sloped and 33m.
high tower was built in
1225, in the times of the
Seljuk Sultan Aladdin
Keykubat. It is called ''Red
Tower'' because of the red
tricks used for it is walls.
SHIPYARDS (TERSANE)
The Shipyards is on the
south of the Red Tower and
it is the only shipyard
inherited from the Seljuks.
It is know that, Alaaddin
Keykubat built it in order
to encourage trade in the
Mediterrenean. Ships were
repaired here and tok
shelter in it. The Shipyard
has sports connected to each
other each 7 m. wide and
42.5m. deep.
THE STALACTITE CAVERN
(DAMLATAS MAGARASI)
The Damlatas cavern is 1 km
for from Alanya and it is
under sea level. It has 15m.
high and the humidity inside
changes between 90-100%.
There are money stalactites
and stalagmites inside. It
spreads out on an area of
200m2. The 22oC temparature
is a rumous that this cavern
is good for bronchitis and
asthma. Ankara Tower and
Hamam pavilion, built by the
Seljuk Sultan, are buildings
close to Alanya, have come
down to our times.

Geographical Position
The surface area of Turkey is divided by the Dardanelles, the sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus. In the west, Turkey has boundaries with Greece (212km) and Bulgaria (269km). In the east and south east, Turkey has boundaries with four countries: The Soviet Union (610km) , Iran (454km), Iraq (331km), and Syria (870km). Geographically, Turkey is a land-bridge between Europe and Asia.
The european section of Turkey is a fertile hilly land. The Asian part of Turkey consist of an inner high plateau (1000m) with mountain ranges along the north and south coasts. The plaeau extends from the west to the Aegean coast, with many river valleys.
The western part is the most fertile section of the country. In eastern Turkey, the northern Pontus Mountains meet with the southern Taurus Mountains and from here the 1800m high Anatolian plateau. From this plateau rise the particularly high Vulkan Mountains over 3000m, while further south is the 5165m high Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in the country.
