FETHIYE (TELMESSOS)
The name the city was ''Telmessos''
in antiquity but it was changed in
1914 to ''Fethiye'' for the memory
of Fethi Bey, who was one of the
first airforce soldiers who died for
the Turkish state. Fethiye is a town
of Mugla. Tombs belonging to the
Lycian period, hundreds of caverns,
beaches for surfing will fascinate
you in Fethiye.
THE DEAD SEA (OLU DENIZ)
It is aproximately 8 km. south of
Fethiye. This place is called
''Oludeniz'' ''deadsea'' because of
the stagrant sea. Natural beauty,
sandy beaches, imprassive olors of
the sea attract many people and this
place where the forest meets the sea
is visited by thousand of tourists
every summer.
CAUNOS (DALYAN)
Caunos is situated 20 km. south of
Koycegiz just across the village of
DALYAN on the straight which
connects the lake of Koycegiz to the
Aegean Sea. Caunos is known with it
is Rock-Tombs. In the city which had
lived the eras of Alexandre the
great Persions Romans and
Byzantinium empire many
archeological excavations had been
caried out in 1966 and in 1969. We
highly recommend you to give a visit
to a the village of DALYAN which is
found just across the antique city
CAUNOS which has been turned out to
be the most favoured region for the
International Environmental
Associations such as the greens.
When looked through the small island
reed beds and marshes within the
village you will meet a sandy area
shaped like a togue which is called
Iztuzu. This area is the bed of sea
turtles called Caretta Caretta where
they use as egg laying place.
Because of the excessive pressure of
environmentalists worldwide the area
is taken within the protected area
for the purposeof survival of the
Turtles.
GOCEK
Gocek is 120 km. from Mugla and
Fethiye. It has got two important
Marinas so yachting sport is
popular. It isn't a crowded city but
it has all the advantages for having
wonderful holidays. Small but rich
stores can answer all the needs of
the sportsmen. Boarding houses are
available for accommodation. This is
a cozy place for vacations, Also
there are small island waiting to be
explored.

As an old fishing town, Kalkan is a
serene holiday resort which has not
lost the characteristics of it is

Geographical Position
The surface area of Turkey is divided by the Dardanelles, the sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus. In the west, Turkey has boundaries with Greece (212km) and Bulgaria (269km). In the east and south east, Turkey has boundaries with four countries: The Soviet Union (610km) , Iran (454km), Iraq (331km), and Syria (870km). Geographically, Turkey is a land-bridge between Europe and Asia.
The european section of Turkey is a fertile hilly land. The Asian part of Turkey consist of an inner high plateau (1000m) with mountain ranges along the north and south coasts. The plaeau extends from the west to the Aegean coast, with many river valleys.
The western part is the most fertile section of the country. In eastern Turkey, the northern Pontus Mountains meet with the southern Taurus Mountains and from here the 1800m high Anatolian plateau. From this plateau rise the particularly high Vulkan Mountains over 3000m, while further south is the 5165m high Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in the country.
