Bayburt is located on the historical Erzurum - Trabzon Silk Road that connects Eastern Anatolia Region to the Black Sea Region. Marco Polo and Turkish traveler Evliya Celebi had passed among this road. The city is founded among the banks of Coruh River and the history of the city extends to year BC 3000. The Plateaus of Bayburt : 40 kilometers southeast of Bayburt on the Askale road at an altitude of 2918 meters is the Kop Mountain Plateau. Buses from Bayburt pass by the plateau, but if you want to linger in the clear cool summer breezes you should come prepared with sleeping bags and provisions.
