Hotel Angel's Home Istanbul has a wonderful restaurant which is located on the roof of the hotel surrounded by potted plants and within full view of the majestic Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque. The story goes that the Sultan ordered for there to be golden minarets. The word for 'gold' and 'six' in Turkish are very similar and so the mosque is not golden but it has six minarets instead of four. Whatever you have heard or read you can enjoy one of Sinan's finest creations while sipping a glass of wine or eating your breakfast and deciding where to visit for the day. The restaurant at the terrace served gourmet food from Turkey's wealth of dishes and delicacies and while you are tucking in you can see the sunset over the beautiful buildings of Sultanahmet and watch the dusky shadows disappear as the flood lights turn on, creating a great spectacle. Also visible from this vantage point is the palace at Topkapi, home to the Sultans and their Harem which you can visit separately and the boat lights out on the Bosphorus and sea of Marmara. There is also a bar, of course, so you can watch all this, drink in hand, unwinding from an exciting day.
