According to legend the name Adıyaman comes from story of 'yediyaman' (the seven heroes) once there was a father who worshipped false idols and has seven sons. His sons were upset that the father worshipped these things and one day when he was out hunting the boys destroyed the idols. On his return the father saw what they had done and killed the boys one by one. The people were astounded and buried the boys giving them the name yediyaman.The city of Adıyaman provides shops and infrastructure to an agricultural region watered by the River Euphrates.The people are religious and conservative; it is hard to find a beer in Adıyaman, or other social amenities like cafes, cinemas, and theatre. There is an important historical point palanli cave which you definetly have to see. Legendary Nemrut Mountain is not far from Adiyaman at all. The mountain site of the tomb-sanctuary of King Antiochus of Commagene (64–32 BC), S Anatolia, Turkey; a world heritage monument. The peak is 220 m/722 ft above sea-level, while the tomb is a conical tumulus 50 m/160 ft high and 150 m/500 ft in diameter at its base. At the top of Mt. Nemrut, King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene built his tomb-sanctuary along with huge statues (8-9 meters high) of himself, two lions and two eagles, and various Greek and Persian gods such as Hercules, Zeus-Oromasdes (associated with the Persian god Ahura Mazda), Tyche, and Apollo-Mithras in 62 BC. These statues were once seated, with names of each god inscribed on them. The heads of the statues are scattered throughout the site; the pattern of damage to the heads (notably to noses) suggests iconoclasm. There are stone slabs, with bas-relief figures on them, that are thought to have formed a large frieze. These stones display the ancestors of Antiochus, both which are Macedonians and Persians. This tomb contains stone carvings of gods, such as the head of an eagle.
