BAYBURT
Bayburt is a city that has a strong and important history backgorund.It is a
city that was visited by Marco Polo and Turkish excursionist Evliya Celebi.We
shouldn`t forget its importance on the ancient Silk Route in Anatolia.
In the old times it was written in the book of Anabasis written by Xenophan
that Bayburt was an Iskit city called as Gymnias.In Asia Minor the city was a
huge and prosperous town.
The history of Bayburt goes back to 300m BC.We know that Azzi Tribe had
founded this town and then Cimmerians passed through in the 8th century BC.The
other invaders and settlers of Bayburt were Meds and Persians.It was not the end,
in the 2nd century BC Pontian Kingdom had invaded the region.Later, Roman Empire
times had began and today`s historicl remains are from that period.For example,
Bayburt Castle , actually built by Urartus.When we come to 8th and 9th centuries it`s known that Emevis and Byzantines occupied the city but finally Seljuks and

The first impression of the city is its Byzantine Castle that welcomes you
when you enter the nice town..We can`t count the historical buildings in the
city; however, in summary, there are various breathtaking mosques, Turkish
baths, and the tombstonesas in Catalcesme underground city similar to the ones
in Cappadocia, natural Sirakayalar Waterfall that are worth to see.Other
